Riverkeeper Files Lawsuit Against Metro Tire Landfill

Locust Fork, AL  Black Warrior Riverkeeper has filed suit against Metro Recycling, Inc. in United States District Court.  The lawsuit alleges that Metro Recycling’s significant and ongoing pollution violations have diminished water quality, recreation and wildlife habitat in the Locust Fork.

hits in 18 months as well.

 A chemical industry in Arab, AL has been discharging large
volumes of bromide into the Riley Maze Wastewater Treatment
Plant for years. The Alabama Department of Environmental
Management (ADEM) oversees the plant’s daily discharge to
Riley Maze Creek and administers the permit.

Opposition Campaign

and the general public to refrain from buying cypress mulch.
The lower part of the Black Warrior River watershed is known
for its beautiful and ecologically vital cypress wetlands.

Airport
 Black Warrior Riverkeeper filed a citizen’s suit in Federal court
against the Birmingham International Airport and its contractors for
allowing mud to run into Village Creek. Riverkeeper alleged over 60 violations of the Clean Water Act resulting from the runway
extension project. Penalties could be as high as $4 million.
