501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organization Tax Returns
As a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization, Black Warrior Riverkeeper sends the IRS an annual tax return called Form 990. Nonprofit organizations are required to submit these forms by May 15 annually, covering the previous year of business. Black Warrior Riverkeeper takes the optional extra step of purchasing an Independent Accountants’ Compilation Report, available upon request. To uphold proper checks and balances, we divide financial duties between our Board, executive director, accountant, and bookkeeper. GuideStar/Candid, the leading source of information on American nonprofit organizations, has given us Platinum status, their highest rating.
