Chinese Delegation Meets with Black Warrior Riverkeeper:
Shepherd Bend Mine Presentation at the Birmingham Zoo
On October 5, 2011, a Delegation of Chinese leaders and researchers came to the Birmingham Zoo Auditorium for Black Warrior Riverkeeper’s presentation about the Shepherd Bend Mine proposal, a threat to Birmingham’s drinking water that The University of Alabama can prevent. The Chinese visitors chose Black Warrior Riverkeeper’s Shepherd Bend Mine opposition as a topic of interest during their Two-Way Exchange Between the U.S. and China on Environmental Issues. Their month-long visit to the U.S. was coordinated by the U.S. Department of State and The University of Montana. Special thanks to Dr. William Foster, President and CEO of the Birmingham Zoo, for providing introductory remarks and arranging a tour following our presentation.
