Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-know Act of 1986 –
The Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act was passed to help communities deal safely and effectively with the many hazardous substances that are used throughout society. The law encourages and supports emergency planning for responding to chemical accidents and spills, and provides local governments and the public with information about possible chemical hazards in local waters.
