Exciting Growth at Black Warrior Riverkeeper

Dear Black Warrior Riverkeeper supporters,

Last week I finished my term as Black Warrior Riverkeeper’s first AmeriCorps member. I am excited to announce that I joined Black Warrior Riverkeeper’s staff today, August 2, as Outreach Coordinator!

I had such an amazing experience as an AmeriCorps member. I explored the watershed, learned about the issues affecting it, met community members, and cleaned up litter in our area. Since my start in October of 2020 we have hosted or supported 43 cleanups, engaged 409 volunteers, and removed 16,877 pounds of litter from the Black Warrior River watershed!

I’m thrilled to be able to continue this cleanup effort with the help of our future AmeriCorps member (we are currently accepting job applications), and expand on that work. In my new role I will be able to use the experiences I gained, along with my educational background, to enhance the outreach efforts of Black Warrior Riverkeeper, implement additional volunteer opportunities and events, work on advocacy efforts, and assist with grant writing and fundraising.

I hope y’all will join me in this effort to appreciate nature, its diversity, and our relationship to it. If you are interested in volunteering or learning more about our new AmeriCorps opening, you can reach me at my new email, [email protected]. I’m excited to get to work!

For your water and communities,

Katie Fagan
