Osprey Field Technician Job Description

Osprey Initiative is hiring part-time field technicians to monitor and maintain our trash collection devices in the Birmingham, AL area. This effort is part of an overall project to investigate methods to reduce and recycle plastics in our waterways.

Osprey Initiative is a new company bringing implementable solutions to restore and protect our natural environment.  A large part of our business is the use of Litter Gitters (small stream litter traps) to intercept floating litter from moving downstream.

Field technicians will be responsible for collecting material from the traps and recording associated data.  Additionally, we will remove litter and debris from other areas and assist with other restoration work in the watershed.

QUALIFICATIONS

~Organized with strong note taking/data recording skills.
~Dependable and have a sense of responsibility – Must be a self-starter.
~Attention to detail with strong communication skills.
~Comfortable working in an outdoor setting in dynamic, sometimes adverse conditions for long hours.
~Comfortable working around the water and in canoes and boats.
~Must be able to lift 50 pounds and feel comfortable carrying heavy items.
~Must be able to work in a team environment in a safety conscious manner.
~Valid Drivers License and transportation to worksites (pickup truck is a plus).

Our goal is to have a 2-3-person team maintaining, inspecting, and emptying Osprey Initiative’s Litter Gitters on a weekly basis.  You will also sort, and document materials collected following an EPA designed protocol.  Recyclables will be sorted and stored while trash will be disposed of as directed.  You may be asked to speak to civic and educational groups and participate in awareness and litter removal programs. Osprey Initiative will provide appropriate orientation, safety, and job training prior to start of work.  Our worksites are drug and alcohol free.

We anticipate crew members will work approximately 8 to 10 hours. The schedule may vary somewhat week to week dependent on weather and rainfall events.

Starting Pay is $10 – $12/hr. depending on experience
