Frequently Asked Questions on Riverkeeper Volunteering

Can you sign off on service hours for my school, company, club, civic group, or court requirement?
If you serve as a volunteer for a Black Warrior Riverkeeper and record your hours accurately, we can vouch for your good work. Contact Charles Scribner at [email protected] prior to your service to discuss your requirement, and then upon completion of service to relay your tally of hours.  Please make sure you complete your service and submit your final tally at least 2 business days before your paperwork/receipt is due.

How do I organize a cleanup for my club, school, church, or other group?
We are happy to facilitate group cleanups. We can direct you to locations in need of cleanups.  With enough advance planning, we can provide gloves, trash bags, and connect you with additional volunteers if desired. You can email Charles Scribner at [email protected] with any questions about scheduling your event.

How do I organize a cleanup or service day for my company?
Volunteer days are amazing team-building experiences and a great way to give back to the community. We regularly host our corporate partners for cleanups and projects! We can direct you to locations in need of cleanups. Please email Charles Scribner at [email protected] to learn more and schedule your event.

Are children allowed at volunteer events?
Volunteering is fun and builds character! Children age 10+ are welcome to volunteer at events when accompanied by an adult (can be a teacher, mentor, scout leader, etc.). Those under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian sign their volunteer waiver to work solo.
