The Rescue of Lou

You never know what you are going to find during a cleanup. Sometimes it’s trash that has been there for decades, sometimes it’s creepy dolls, and sometimes it’s something completely unexpected. A year ago today, we found a dog! Meet Lou!

We found Lou on October 4, 2021 during a cleanup with a group of Altamont students at East Lake Park. She approached Katie Fagan, our outreach coordinator, and Katie Holmes, our former AmeriCorps member, a bit banged up and hungry, but she is now enjoying her best life. Lou has lived happily with Katie Fagan and her husband, Elliot, for the past year. She likes long walks with plenty of stops, destroying chew toys, and rolling around in the grass.

While cute dogs may not be the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of litter cleanups, it just goes to show that our volunteers are working to clean up the watershed for everyone — human and animal. We run cleanups throughout the Black Warrior River watershed, so come and join us and see what you can find, or consider donating towards this effort! You’ll even get the chance to meet our amazing new AmeriCorps member, Rosey White! Sign up for our volunteer newsletter to stay up to date on cleanups and register on our Eventbrite page
