 Katie Holmes ~ AmeriCorps Member

Katie Holmes joined Black Warrior Riverkeeper as the AmeriCorps service member for 2021-2022 on October 1, 2021. She is helping Katie Fagan, outreach coordinator, to expand Black Warrior Riverkeeper’s volunteer engagement, litter cleanups, and outreach across the Black Warrior River watershed.

Katie relocated to Birmingham from Washington, D.C. in 2019 after attaining a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science & Policy from the University of Maryland. During her time as an undergraduate, Katie was a member of the College Park Scholars program and also expanded her education at École Supérieure d’Agriculture in Angers, France.

Much of Katie’s time in Birmingham has been spent exploring Alabama’s natural beauty with a camera in hand. She is especially enamored with the state’s complex aquatic ecosystems, which are radically different from what she grew up with in the Northeast. Katie is motivated by her love of the wilderness to protect and celebrate Alabama’s biodiversity, and she’s excited to forge a deeper connection with her community.
