Mary Allen Murray joins our team

Welcome Mary Allen Murray, Black Warrior Riverkeeper’s new AmeriCorps member! From November 1, 2023 to September 30, 2024, Mary Allen will help Katie Holmes and Charles Scribner expand Black Warrior Riverkeeper’s volunteer engagement, litter cleanups, and outreach across the Black Warrior River basin. You can reach her at [email protected] or by calling our office: 205-458-0095.

Mary Allen is a recent graduate of Vanderbilt University where she studied Earth & Environmental Sciences and Piano Performance. Her studies equipped her with a scientific background and fieldwork experience, while also giving her opportunities to involve herself in community outreach.

As a Birmingham native, Mary Allen has developed a profound appreciation for the Black Warrior River watershed. She grew up swimming at Smith Lake, in the Black Warrior River’s Sipsey Fork watershed, which fostered her love of Alabama’s natural beauty. Her personal connection to the watershed motivates her to protect and preserve it for future generations.

Mary Allen is excited to share her passion for conservation and serve her community during her time at Black Warrior Riverkeeper. She encourages folks from all age groups, backgrounds, and locations to sign up for our monthly volunteer newsletter email: blackwarriorriver.org/volunteer-newsletters/.
